Recap: Middle Atlantic Series at Hobbit’s Glen GC

On Saturday, September 14, the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the 2019 Middle Atlantic Regional Series One-Day at Hobbit’s Glen Golf Club in Columbia, MD.

These PKBGT regional events offer innovative yardage-based divisions to girls aged 9-17. The PKBGT Series Progression allows players to progress towards playing collegiate golf by playing yardage/skill appropriate tournaments as they develop their game.

Prep Division

Edging out the competition by just one stroke to take home the Prep Division title was Helen Yeung (Clarksville, MD 2024) after posting a round of 78. Yeung’s round was highlighted by 12 pars, catapulting her atop the leaderboard to earn an exemption into the 2019 PKBGT Prep Invitational this fall! A force to be reckoned with, Yeung also won the Futures National title at the PKBGT Dupont Girls Classic this past May.

Just one stroke behind Yeung in a three way tie for third place was Melanie Walker (Burke, VA 2022), Alice Zou (Potomac, MD 2022) and Rachel Detore (Fredericksburg, VA 2020) with a round of 79. About the PKBGT

Founded in 2007 by the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, as a local girls’ golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina, the tour began as a simple concept: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls. By utilizing innovative yardage-based divisions instead of the traditional age-based format, the tour focused on developing tournament experience at the player’s pace. The 2019 season will feature over 90 tournaments in 9 states on the East Coast and with over 900 members, the PKBGT is the largest girl’s only tour in the country.  Learn more about the PKBGT at http://www.pkbgt.org/.
