On Saturday, September 14, the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the 2019 Middle Atlantic Regional Series One-Day at Hobbit’s Glen Golf Club in Columbia, MD.

These PKBGT regional events offer innovative yardage-based divisions to girls aged 9-17. The PKBGT Series Progression allows players to progress towards playing collegiate golf by playing yardage/skill appropriate tournaments as they develop their game.

Prep Division

Edging out the competition by just one stroke to take home the Prep Division title was Helen Yeung (Clarksville, MD 2024) after posting a round of 78. Yeung’s round was highlighted by 12 pars, catapulting her atop the leaderboard to earn an exemption into the 2019 PKBGT Prep Invitational this fall! A force to be reckoned with, Yeung also won the Futures National title at the PKBGT Dupont Girls Classic this past May.

Just one stroke behind Yeung in a three way tie for third place was Melanie Walker (Burke, VA 2022), Alice Zou (Potomac, MD 2022) and Rachel Detore (Fredericksburg, VA 2020) with a round of 79. Zou led the trio in birdies after carding three throughout her round, while Walker and Detore posted 12 and 10 pars, respectively.

Joining her sister Helen with a top finish at today’s event, Yeung started her round steadily with seven pars in a row followed by a birdie on the eighth and a par on the ninth hole. Watch out for Yeung as a frontrunner on the Storie Apparel Middle Atlantic Discovery Order of Merit heading into the series finale in two weeks!

Just one stroke back was Katie Lee (McClean, VA 2026) finishing with a score of even-par 36. Lee made a charge on the seventh and eight holes, posting back-to-back birdies.

About the PKBGT

Founded in 2007 by the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, as a local girls’ golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina, the tour began as a simple concept: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls. By utilizing innovative yardage-based divisions instead of the traditional age-based format, the tour focused on developing tournament experience at the player’s pace. The 2019 season will feature over 90 tournaments in 9 states on the East Coast and with over 900 members, the PKBGT is the largest girl’s only tour in the country.  Learn more about the PKBGT at http://www.pkbgt.org/.
