Recap: 2019 PKBGT North Carolina Series at Pine Island CC

On Tuesday, August 6th, the 2019 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the North Carolina Series at Pine Island Country Club in Charlotte, NC.

These PKBGT regional events offer innovative yardage-based divisions to girls aged 9-17. The PKBGT Series Progression allows players to progress towards playing collegiate golf by playing yardage/skill appropriate tournaments as they develop their game.

Prep Division

Howerton about another? Make it a three-peat for Anna Howerton (Kernersville, NC 2023) after she picked up her third consecutive Prep division win in Charlotte! Howerton cannot be tamed, catching fire on the back nine with a clutch birdie on the 17th hole to secure victory. She posted a final score of 76 (+4) on the afternoon.

Stacked up one stroke behind Howerton, Emily Song (Waxhaw, NC 2019), Elizabeth Lobhauer (Huntersville, NC 2021) and Amber Capote (Waxhaw, NC 2020) finished in a three-way tie for second place. All three competitors finished with scores of 77 (+5) in their round.

Song settled into her grove down the final stretch, making a birdie on hole 15 before closing out the round with back-to-back pars. Capote found success early on, carding two birdies on the front nine. She sprinkled one more into her round on the back.

Lohbauer remained steady throughout the round, holding on to earn a share of the runner-up prize.

Futures Division

Prevailing atop the Futures division leaderboard at Pine Island, Maggie Magner (Charlotte, NC 2022) rode a 79 (+7) to victory lane! Magner buckled down on the back nine where she posted an even-par 37 with one birdie.

In second place, Kasey McIlvain (Raleigh, NC 2023) stormed out of the gates with two birdies on an even-par front nine. McIlvain stumbled along the final stretch but held on with a total score of 81 (+9).

Emma Sperber (Waxhaw, NC 2023) secured a third-place finish after posting an 83 (+11) in her round. Capping off the top finishers in the Futures division, Summer Stephens (Waxhaw, NC 2024) sank three birdies amid her 84 (+12) on Tuesday.

Discovery Division

Walking away with her fourth win on the North Carolina Discovery Series, Gracie Song (Waxhaw, NC 2026) could do no wrong at Pine Island Country Club. Song ripped off a four-under-par 31 with four birdies to take home the first-place trophy!

Finishing runner-up, Elle Crichton (Cary, NC 2026) continued a streak of top finishes after posting a 36 (+1). Crichton closed out the round in style with an eagle on her final hole!

Rounding out the Discovery top finishers, Alicia Fang (Waxhaw, NC 2026) and Emily Cao (Oak Ridge, NC 2025) shared third-place honors after finishing the afternoon with scores of 38 (+3).

The PKBGT North Carolina Series is back in action on this weekend with the Chapel Hill Classic at UNC Finley GC in Chapel Hill, NC.

About the PKBGT

Founded in 2007 by the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, as a local girls’ golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina, the tour began as a simple concept: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls. By utilizing innovative yardage-based divisions instead of the traditional age-based format, the tour focused on developing tournament experience at the player’s pace. The 2019 season will feature over 90 tournaments in 9 states on the East Coast and with over 900 members, the PKBGT is the largest girl’s only tour in the country.  Learn more about the PKBGT at
