On November 17, the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour’s top young talent showed their skill at the Arthur Hills Course of the Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort in Hilton Head Island, SC for the first round of the 2018 Discovery Invitational.

The inaugural event features girls ages 9-12 and is split into two divisions. The Championship Division plays a full 18 holes at 5,000 yards while the Sub-Junior Division plays nine holes each day at 1,800 yards.

Championship Division

After the first round of play, the leader in the 14 player Championship Division is Emerson Dever (Durham, NC 2025) who shot an eight-over score of 80 on the day. Dever sank a birdie on the par 5 13th hole.

In second place with a score of 81 (+9) is Kanchana Duangsam (Haymarket, VA 2026). Duangsam had two birdies of her own including one on the 18th hole to finish her round.

Rounding out the top 3 is Gracie Song (Waxhaw, NC 2026) who shot an 84 (+12) in her first day on the island. Song found steady success on the par three’s, going even on the day.

Sub-Junior Division

The leader of the five player Sub-Junior Division after the first round is Bretton Mackiewicz (Longwood, FL 2025) who shot a four-over 40 on the day. Mackiewicz’s score ties her career best and was able to hole a birdie on the fourth hole as the highlight of her round.

In a tie for second place is Alexandra Kennedy (Arden, NC 2026) and Addison Butler (Bristow, VA 2024) who both scored 47 (+11) on the day. Rounding out the top 4 of the division is Landry Hamm (Charlotte, NC 2027) in fourth place with a 50 (+14).

Everyone looks to continue their success this weekend in the second round of the 2018 Discovery Invitational at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort. We look forward to a phenomenal closing day at the inaugural event on the Arthur Hills Course.
