On Saturday, May 11, the 2019 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the Middle Atlantic Series at Augustine Golf Club in Stafford, VA.
These PKBGT regional events offer innovative yardage-based divisions to girls aged 9-17. The PKBGT Series Progression allows players to progress towards playing collegiate golf by playing yardage/skill appropriate tournaments as they develop their game.
Prep Division
Taking home the championship trophy in the 9 player prep division was Melanie Walker (Burke, VA 2022). Walker finished the afternoon with a score 77 (+5) in winning the first Middle Atlantic regional event of the year. She found her best success with a birdie on the fifth hole.
In second place with a score of 81 (+9) was Ester Choi (Midlothian, VA 2021). Choi made a birdie on the 14th hole to make her way into the runner-up position.
Finishing in third place, Nichole Trombetta (Poquoson, VA 2019) shot a score of 82 (+10) on Saturday. Trombetta kicked off her round in style with an eagle on the second hole!
Rounding out the Prep division Top Five, in a two-way tie for fourth place was Josephine Nguyen (Springfield, VA 2024) and Akshitha Vemuru (Herndon, VA 2021). Both players shot 85 (+13) on the afternoon.
Futures Division
Leading the way in the Futures division was Amanda Deener (Frederick, MD 2020) with a score of 83 (+11). Deener scored a birdie on the 16th hole to take home the victory.
In second place with a score of 84 (+12) was Alina Ho (Great Falls, VA 2024). Claire Kim (Lorton, VA 2021) finished in third place with a score of 87 (+15).
Jaffa Yeager (Chesapeake, VA 2026) finished in fourth place with a score of 88 (+16) on Saturday afternoon. Rounding out the Top Five in the Futures division was Kanchana Duangsam (Haymarket, VA 2026) with a score of 89 (+17).
Discovery Division
Winning the Discovery division was Abigail Avallone (Adamstown, MD 2026) with a score of 39 (+3). Avallone made a birdie on the second hole to get her round started.
Samantha Nguyen (Springfield, VA 2026) and Tia Macdonald (Midlothian, VA 2027) finished in a tie for second place. Both girls finished Saturday’s round with scores of 41 (+5).
With a score of 45 (+9), Anvitha Vemura (Herndon, VA 2025) finished the tournament in third place. Rounding out the Top Finishers, in a two-way tie for fifth place were Isabel Vizgaitis (Alexandria, VA 2028) and Sydney Dinh (Fairfax, VA 2028) with scores of 52 (+16).
The PKBGT Middle Atlantic Series is back in action on June 1 at Pendleton Golf Club in Ruther Glen, VA.

One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels but are a great place for development golfers to “get into the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course.

Founded in 2007 by the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, as a local girls’ golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina, the tour began as a simple concept: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls. By utilizing innovative yardage-based divisions instead of the traditional age-based format, the tour focused on developing tournament experience at the player’s pace. The 2019 season will feature over 90 tournaments in 9 states on the East Coast and with over 900 members, the PKBGT is the largest girl’s only tour in the country.
