Preview: Rocket Tour PLAYERS Championship at UGA

The PKBGT returns to action February 17-18, 2018 with the Rocket Tour Players Championship at UGA in Athens, GA.  The event is the first stroke play championship of the year and will feature 71 players of the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the largest “girls-only” junior golf tour in the country. They will tackle the course at 5,997 yards in the Bell National and Prep Preview divisions and at 5,186 yards in the Futures National division.Pine Needles Lodge & GC

The Rocket Tour Players Championship is the fourth tournament of the Women’s Health Classic Junior Challenge presented by the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation. The Challenge will consist of 7 events between January 20 – March 10, 2018 and be operated by the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour. The first 6 pre-qualifying events will be open to any PKBGT member and will qualify PKBGT Bell National players for the Junior Challenge Qualifier on March 24-25, 2018 at the Links at Stoney Point. The champion of the qualifier will receive the sponsor exemption* (qualifying player must have a USGA handicap index of 3.7 or better to be granted the exemption). The Bell National Series features a strong field of 29 players from 7 different states in the U.S. and one player from Canada.  Featured in the Bell National Series are Ainsley Cowart (Winston, GA 2019), Kate Owens (Suwanee, GA 2018) and Kimberly Shen (Johns Creek, GA 2022). Ainsley is currently ranked 33rd on the Bell Series Order of Merit for the 2018 season.  She finished in first place at the Eagle Classic at Georgia Southern and is currently T7 on the Junior Challenge Points Standings.  Kate is currently ranked 18th on the Bell Series Order of Merit for the 2018 season. She finished in 5th place at the PKBGT Invitational at Grandover Resort and is currently T30 on the Junior Challenge Points Standings.  Kimberly is currently ranked 19th on the Bell Series Order of Merit for the 2018 season. She finished T2 at the Orange Whip Classic at Clemson and is currently ranked T10 on the Junior Challenge Points Standings. Each player looks to continue their success this weekend at the Rocket Tour Players Championship!

The Prep Preview Series features a field of 25 players from 5 different states.  Featured in the Prep Preview Series are Chloe Holder (Williamston, SC 2021), Katelyn Lee (Easley, SC 2020) and Iris Cao (Duluth, GA 2022). Chloe is currently ranked 16th on the Prep Preview Order of Merit for the 2018 season. She finished in 1st place at the Orange Whip Classic at Clemson in the Prep Preview Division. Katelyn is currently ranked T29 on the Prep Preview Order of Merit, and finished T7 at the Orange Whip Classic at Clemson. Iris is currently ranked 74 on the Bell National Series Order of Merit, and has finished top-10 in her last 2 PKB Tournaments: the Orange Whip Classic at Clemson and the Eagle Classic at Georgia Southern University. Each player looks to continue their success this weekend at the Rocket Tour Players Championship!

The Futures National Series features 17 players from 4 different states. Featured in the Futures National Series are Averi Cline (Suwanee, GA 2022) and Morgan Ellison (Peachtree City, GA 2021). Averi is currently ranked T21 on the Futures National Order of Merit. She also finished T7 at the PKB Junior at Pine Needles. Morgan is currently ranked 9th on the Futures National Order of Merit, and she finished in 1st place at the PKB Junior at Pine Needles. Each player looks to continue their success this weekend at the Rocket Tour Players Championship!

The Rocket Tour Players Championship will take place on Saturday and Sunday the 17-18 of February beginning at 9:00am both days, weather permitting.  As always, we look forward to a great event!

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
