Recap: Schuster, Holder and Millard Claim Victories at Orange Whip Classic at Clemson Univeristy

The 2018 Orange Whip Classic at Clemson University came to a rain-shortened end after 18 holes on Saturday.  Sunday’s final round has been cancelled due to rain and course conditions. Pine Needles Lodge & GCThe event featured 73 players of the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the largest “girls-only” junior golf tour in the country.

The Orange Whip Classic is the third tournament of the Women’s Health Classic Junior Challenge presented by the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation. The Challenge will consist of 7 events between January 20 – March 10, 2018 and be operated by the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour. The first 6 pre-qualifying events will be open to any PKBGT member and will qualify players for the Junior Challenge Qualifier on March 24-25, 2018 at the Links at Stoney Point. The champion of the Junior Challenge Qualifier qualifier will receive the sponsor exemption* (qualifying player must have a USGA handicap index of 3.7 or better to be granted the exemption).

Champion of the Bell National Division is Katherine Schuster (2021, Kill Devil Hills, NC) claimed victory with an even par 72.  Schuster claimed a 1 shot victory over Kimberly Shen (2022, Johns Creek, GC) and University of Virginia signee Riley Smyth (2018, Cary, NC).  Shuster’s round was highlighted by 3 birdies over the wet and soggy Walker Course.

In the Prep Preview division, Chloe Holder (2021, Williamston, SC) claimed a one shot victory over Emily Brubaker (2020, Raleigh, NC).  Holder fired a six over par 78 to claim her first Prep Preview victory of the season.  Molly Hardwick (2o22, Lexington, SC) claimed 3rd place with a score of 81.

The Futures National division saw Annabelle Millard (2022, Indian Trial, NC) claim her first victory of the season with a two-shot victory over Macy Pate (2023, Boone, NC).  Millard birdied three of her first eight holes to take an early lead and finished off the round six over for a victorious 75.  Amber Capote (2020, Waxhaw, NC) and Abby Franks (2023, Roebuck, SC) shot matching 83’s to tie for third place.

The PKBGT will return to action next weekend, February 17-18, 2018 for the Rocket Tour Players Championship at UGA!
