Update: Weinfurther, Shin Lead After Round 1 of the PKB Foundation Classic at CCNC

The PKBGT returned to action on Saturday, January 27, 2018 with the PKB Foundation Classic at The Country Club of North Carolina. Pine Needles Lodge & GCThe event features 74 players of the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the largest “girls-only” junior golf tour in the country. They will tackle the course at 5,756 yards in the Bell National Series and 5,114 yards in the Futures National Series.

The PKB Foundation Classic is the second tournament of the Women’s Health Classic Junior Challenge presented by the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation. The Challenge will consist of 7 events between January 20 – March 10, 2018 and be operated by the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour. The first 6 pre-qualifying events will be open to any PKBGT member and will qualify players for the Junior Challenge Qualifier on March 24-25, 2018 at the Links at Stoney Point. The champion of the Junior Challenge Qualifier qualifier will receive the sponsor exemption* (qualifying player must have a USGA handicap index of 3.7 or better to be granted the exemption).

After round 1 of the PKB Foundation Classic, Rory Weinfurther (Midlothian, VA 2020) leads the Bell National Series with a score of 71. Just 3 strokes behind the lead in a tie for second is Johnna Parlett (Dunkirk, MD 2019) and Anna McDonald (Hickory, NC 2019) with a first round score of 74. Currently in fourth place with a score of 76 is Lauren Martin (Mooresville, NC 2019). In a tie for fifth place is Katherine Schuster (Kill Devil Hills, NC 2021) and Emelia Pack (Browns Summit, NC 2019  with a first round score of 77.

Julie Shin (Brambleton, VA 2022) leads the Futures National Series after round 1 with a score of 75. Just 4 strokes behind the leader is Sydney Yermish (Wynnewood, PA 2023) with a score of 79. Currently in third place is Annabelle Milliard (Indian Trail, NC 2022) with a score of 81. Grayson Warren (Washington, NC 2021) and Abby Hunter (Blacksburg, VA 2021) are currently in a tie for fourth place with a score of 82.

Awards will be presented to the top-5 finishers in the Bell National and Futures National Series of the PKB Foundation Classic at CCNC!

This is a pre-qualifier for the LPGA Symetra Tour Women’s Health Classic Junior Challenge. All players will earn points towards qualification to the Women’s Health Classic Junior Challenge Qualifier, with the ultimate winner of this event qualifying for the LPGA Symetra Tour’s Self Regional Women’s Health Classic in March 2018 at the Links at Stoney Point in Greenwood, South Carolina.  Learn more about the LPGA Symetra Tour Women’s Health Classic Junior Challenge.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
