Recap: DiNunzio, Ellison Win 2017 PKB Junior at Pine Needles

Pine Needles Lodge & GCThe Final Round of the PKB Junior at Pine Needles Lodge & GC has concluded. Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club, the host of the Peggy Kirk Bell Junior, was also host to the US Women’s Open in 1996, 2001, and 2007.  The strong history of women’s golf at Pine Needles combined with a championship-level course made it the ideal location for the further development of the game and the unofficial home of the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour.

The event was shortened to 18 holes after Thursday’s round was cancelled due to freezing temperatures.

The Champion of the Bell Series was Rebecca DiNunzio (Norfolk, VA 2019) who finished with a score of 73. Just 1 stroke behind the lead in a tie for 2nd were Jensen Castle (West Columbia, SC 2019) and 2016 PKB Junior Champion Nicole Adam (Pinehurst, NC 2020) with a score of 74. In fourth place was Emelia Pack (Browns Summit, 2019) who finished with a score of 75.  In fifth place was Tatum Walsh (Midlothian, VA 2021) who was only 1 stroke behind fourth place with a score of 76.

Winning the Futures Series was Morgan Ellison (Peachtree City, GA 2021) with a score of 78. The runner-up in the Futures Series was Amber Capote (Waxhaw, NC 2020).  Her score of 79 was just 1 stroke behind first place.  In a tie for third place was Sarah Shao (Greenbrook, NJ 2024) and Amber Mackiewicz (Virginia Beach, VA 2023) with a score of 82. In a tie for fifth place with a score of 85 was Elizabeth Lohbauer (Huntersville, NC 2021) and Toni Blackwell (Fayetteville, NC 2020).

A big thank you goes out to the Bell and McGowan families and the Pine Needles staff for hosting yet another wonderful event for us!  The PKBGT will return to action across the street from Pine Needles at Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club for the inaugural Linville Cup January 13 – 15, 2018.

The Linville Cup is designed to reward and enrich the lives of the top finishers of the 2017 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour with a weekend of team golf and leadership seminars. Building on our motto of “more than a golf tournament”, this special weekend will bring together players who have excelled in the past year to Pinehurst, the home of American golf and at Pine Needles/Mid Pines GC, the home of our tour namesake.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers low cost, nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf.
