Preview: Gate City Classic at Forest Oaks Country Club

On June 30th and July 1st, 2018 the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour plays the Gate City Classic at Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina. The event features a field of 44 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour. They will tackle the course at 5,727 yards in the Prep Division and 5,007 yards in the Futures Division.

Featured in the 26 player Prep Division are Maria Atwood (Holly Springs, NC 2022), Mara Hirtle (Pinehurst, NC 2020) and Alexia Siehl (Fort Mill, NC 2022). Maria is currently ranked 1st on the Prep NC Rank and finished runner-up at the Precision Jr. Girls Championship at Bryan Park GC. Mara is currently ranked 2nd on the Prep NC Order of Merit. She finished T2nd at the NC One-Day Series at Statesville Country Club. Alexia is currently ranked 18th on the Prep NC Order of Merit and she finished 1st at the Coastal Carolina Classic at the Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina Universtiy.

Featured in the 18 player Futures Division are Macy Pate (Boone, NC 2023), Regan Clifford (Mount Pleasant, SC 2020), and Bethany Welch (Matthews, NC  2023).  Macy is currently ranked 2nd on the Futures National Order of Merit and placed 1st at the NC One-Day Series at Statesville CC. Regan is currently ranked 7th on the Futures SC Order of Merit and she finished 1st at the SC One-Day Series at the Country Club of South Carolina. Bethany is currently ranked 11th on the Futures SC Order of Merit and finished T4th at the SC One-Day Series at the Members Club at Woodcreek.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers affordable, high-quality nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf. The PKBGT is the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 500 members in 2016 and  over 450 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.
