Update: Round 1 Open Championship at CC of Salisbury

On Saturday, May 26, the 2018 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played round 1 of the PKBGT  OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP at Country Club of Salisbury in Salisbury, North Carolina. Round 1 of play was suspended at 7:15 PM due to severe weather in the area. Play will resume at 8:00 AM on Sunday, May 27.

Salisbury, home of the Catawba College women’s golf team, has been a host course for the PKBGT since 2007. The PKBGT Open Championship is one of the longest running Championship events in PKB history, going on its 10th year at the Country Club of Salisbury. The event features a strong field of 90 players from Bell National and Futures National Series of the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour. The event, ranked by the GolfWeek/Titliest national rankings, is the fifth championship tournament of the 2018 season. 

Currently, leading the Bell National Division is Danielle Suh (Herndon, VA 2020) at 1-under par through 15 holes. Sitting in a tie for 2nd place at even par is Katherine Schuster (Kill Devil Hills, NC 2021) and Rebecca DiNunzio (Norfolk, VA 2019). Emily Hawkins (Lexington, NC 2018), Melissa Meng (Blacksburg, VA 2020) and Alexis Sudjianto (Charlotte, NC 2019) are currently all tied for 4th place at 2-over par. 

Currently, leading the Futures National Division after is Annabelle Millard (Indian Trail, NC 2022) at even par. Sitting in 2nd place at 2-over par is Macy Pate (Boone, NC 2023). Ella Kue (Kings Mountain, NC 2023) and Amber Mackiewicz (Virginia Beach, VA 2023) both currently sit tied for 3rd place at 4-over par. Sitting in 5th place is Grayson Warren (Washington, NC 2021) at 5-over par. 

Following play of round 2, the field size for each division will be reduced to the top 50% and ties.

The PKBGT OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP at Country Club of Salisbury brings together players from Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers affordable, high-quality nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf.
