Preview: NC One-Day Series at Longleaf Golf and Family Club

On Sunday, April 22, the 2018 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour plays the first North Carolina One-Day Series event of the 2018 season at Longleaf Golf & Family Club.

The NC One-Day Series will include 11 One-Day tournaments in North Carolina, concluding with a two-day Series Finale at the end of the season. These events offer innovative yardage-based divisions to girls aged 9-17. The PKBGT Series Progression allows players to progress towards playing collegiate golf by playing yardage/skill appropriate tournaments as they develop their game.

One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The first North Carolina One-Day Series event  at Longleaf G&FC features a full field of 72 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour.

Featured in the 27 player Prep Series are Maria Atwood (Holly Springs, NC 2022), Annabelle Millard (Indian Trail, NC 2022) and Emily Song (Waxhaw, NC 2019). Maria is currently ranked 2nd on the Prep NC Order of Merit. She finished runner-up at the NC Classic at Sapona Ridge CC. Annabelle is currently ranked 7th on the Futures National Order of Merit. She has two wins so far this season at Sapona Ridge CC and The Walker Course at Clemson University. Emily finished the 2017 season ranked T56 in the Prep NC Order of Merit. She had three runner-up finishes last season.

Featured in the 33 player Futures Series are Kyleigh Harnsberger (Advance, NC 2021), Sophia Laliberte (Denver, NC 2021) and Natalie Martinho-Stansbury (Raleigh, NC 2020). Kyleigh is currently ranked 14th on the Futures National Order of Merit and finished T10 at the Orange Whip Classic at Clemson University. Sophia is currently ranked 26th on the Futures National Order of Merit and finished T9 at the NC Classic at Sapona Ridge CC. Natalie is currently ranked 22nd on the Futures National Order of Merit and finished 8th at the PKBGT Masters.

Featured in the 12 player Discovery Series are Sanaa Carter (Jacksonville, NC 2025), Gracie Song (Waxhaw, NC 2026) and Ellen Yu (High Point, NC 2025). Sanaa finished the 2017 season ranked 7th on the Discovery Series Order of Merit and finished in 3rd place at the NC One-Day at Pinehurst No. 9. Sanaa also represented North Carolina East at the inaugural Linville Cup in January where she helped her team claim 1st place! Gracie finished the 2017 season ranked T3 in the Discovery Series Order of Merit and finishing in 1st place at the NC One-Day Series at Mill Creek. Ellen finished the 2017 season ranked 1st in the Discovery Series Order of Merit and was the champion of the NC Series Finale at Statesville CC.

Everyone looks to continue their success this weekend at the first NC One-Day Series of the 2018 season at Longleaf G&FC! Awards will be presented to the top-4 finishers in the Prep and Futures Series, and the top-3 finishers in the Discovery Series. We look forward to a great event!
