Preview: Boar’s Head Inn Classic at Birdwood GC

The PKBGT season is in full swing with our next tour stop at Birdwood GC at the University of Virginia.  On March 17-18, the PKBGT will have a full field of 66 girls on the Birdwood GC in Charlottesville, Virginia. They will tackle the course at 6,041 yards in the Bell National division and in the Futures National division at 5,250 yards.

The Bell National Series features a strong field of 33 players from six different states. Featured in the Bell National Series are Caroline Curtis (Richmond, VA 2019), Lauren Freyvogel (Gibsonia, PA 2019), Kayla Smith (Burlington, NC2019), and Riley Smyth (Cary, NC 2018). Caroline is currently ranked 2nd on the PKBGT Performance Index rankings. She finished +1 at the 2018 Palmetto Classic at Cobblestone Park GC and took home a first place finish. Lauren is currently ranked 5th on the PKBGT Performance Index rankings and last year at this event took home first place with a two day score of +1. Kayla is current ranked 10th on the PKBGT Performance Index rankings and she tied for 2nd place at the 2018 Palmetto Classic at Cobblestone Park GC one shot behind the winner Caroline. Riley is currently ranked 16th on the PKBGT Performance Index rankings and recently finished tied for 2nd at the Orange Whip Classic at The Walker Course at Clemson with a score of +1.

The Futures National Series features a field of 33 players from seven states. Featured in the Futures National Series is Sarah Shao (Green Brook, NJ 2024), Amber Mackiewicz (Virginia Beach, VA 2023), Julie Shin (Brambleton,VA 2022), and Abby Hunter (Blacksburg, VA 2021). Sarah is currently 8th in the Futures Order of Merit standings. She finished tied for 4th at the 2018 PKB Foundation Classic. Amber is currently 2nd in the Futures Order of Merit and finished tied for 6th at last week’s Tar Heel Classic at UNC Finley Golf Course. Julie is currently 3rd in the Futures Order of Merit standings and took home at 1st place finish at the 2018 PKB Foundation Classic and the 2018 Tar Heel Classic. Abby is currently ranked 7th in the Futures Order of Merit standings and finished in 3rd place at the 2018 PKB Foundation Classic.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
