Preview: Palmetto Classic at USC’s Cobblestone Park

On Saturday-Sunday, March 18-19, the PKBGT will play the Palmetto Classic at Cobblestone Park Golf Club. Cobblestone, home of the University of South Carolina women’s golf team, is a beautiful course for this two-day tournament.  The event features a field of 63 players from eight different states, making PKB Girls’ Golf Tour the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour.

This event is the fifth event in the  LPGA Symetra Tour’s Women’s Health Classic Junior Challenge. This challenge is composed of 6 events where Bell and Prep players are awarded points based on their finish in those fields. The Top-29  players, and one sponsors exemption, will then compete in the Junior Challenge Qualifier on April 1-2, 2017 at The Links at Stoney Point. The Challenge champion will receive a sponsor exemption into the Self Regional Women’s Health Classic on May 1-7 2017 at the Links at Stoney Point.

Featured in the Bell Series this weekend are Holly McCann (Raleigh, NC 2019), Emily Hawkins (Lexington, NC 2018), and Kathryn Carson (Mooresville, NC 2016).  McCann, is coming into this event after her strong finish at the Tiger Classic at Clemson, and is highly ranked on the PKBGT Performance Index at number 16.  Hawkins, who ranks in the second spot on the Performance Index will play in her third PKBGT event this year after finishing second at the Invitational.  Carson is ranked 10th on the Performance Index is playing in her third PKBGT event after  T-4 and T-2 finishes at the PKBGT Invitational and PKB Foundation, respectively.

Featured in the Prep Series are Carleigh Greene (Anderson, SC 2017), Jayla Rogers (Wilmington, NC 2019), and Riley Hamilton (Reidsville, NC 2020).  Greene recently finished in the Top-5 at theTiger Classic in the Prep Series and is ranked 5th on the PKBGT Prep Southeast Order of Merit.  Rogers and Hamilton are ranked 83rd and 108th on the Performance Index respectively and will compete for the Prep Series title.

Awards will be presented to the top-five finishers in both series at the completion of play on Sunday, March 19th.  We look forward to another great PKBGT event and welcome all of our new players and PKB families!

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
