Preview: Middle Atlantic Series Finale @ Fawn Lake CC

On Saturday – Sunday, Sept. 30 – Oct. 1, 2017 the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour will play the Middle Atlantic Series Finale at Fawn Lake CC. Fawn Lake CC has been host to University of Maryland GCPKBGT events. Fawn Lake  nicknamed, Arnold Palmer’s “Virginia Masterpiece”,  is a demanding course for this two-day tournament. The tournament features a field of 46 players and includes the Prep, Futures, and Discovery Series.This two-day event is the Series Finale for the Middle Atlantic One-Day series that started at the end of April.

Featured in the Prep Series are Jessica Rathbone (Montpelier, VA 2020), Paris Fieldings (Suffolk, VA 2023), and Hannah Hankim (Potomac, MD 2021). Rathbone is currently sitting atop the Storie Apparel Prep Order of Merit – MA, with two wins and two runner-up finishes in the 2017 Middle Atlantic One-Day Series events.  Fieldings is sitting less than 5 points behind Rathbone on the Storie Apparel Prep Order of Merit – MA and has 1 win this season.  Hankim is currently ranked 3rd in the Prep Order of Merit – MA, and has finished top-5 in her last six Middle Atlantic One-Day Series events. They look to continue their success at Fawn lake Country Club.

The top-5 finishers in the Prep Middle Atlantic Order of Merit will receive an invitation to the 2017 PKBGT Invitational at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, NC. The tournament is a signature event of the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Tour each November.

Featured in the Futures Series are Julie Shin (Brambleton, VA 2022), Sue Lee (Lorton, VA 2022), and Alice Zou (Potomac, MD 2022). Shin is currently ranked 1st in the Storie Apparel Futures Order of Merit – MA and has two wins this season and finished top-3 in eight different PKBGT events this season. Lee is currently ranked 2nd in the Storie Apparel Futures Order of Merit – MA and has eight top-5 finishes in different PKBGT events this season. Zou is currently ranked 4th on the Storie Apparel Futures Order of Merit – MA and has two wins out of four event she has played this season. They are all looking to win the Storie Apparel Futures Order of Merit – MA race.

Featured in the Discovery Series are Josephine Nguyen (Springfield, VA 2024) and Emily Wang (McIean, VA 2024). Both ladies have had great success this season in the Middle Atlantic Discovery Series. Nguyen has had 4 wins this season out of 5 events. Wang has won 3 events this season and is trailing Nguyen by only 4 points in the Storie Apparel Discovery Order of Merit – MA.

It Should be an exciting finish for the Middle Atlantic Series as the top spot in each Order of Merit race is up for grabs!

Awards will be presented to the top-4 finishers in the Prep and Futures Series and to the top-3 finishers in the Discovery Series. The Champions of the Prep and Futures Series will also earn Class A status and an invitation to the 2017 PKBGT Tournament of Champions.

The PKBGT has partnered with the Middle Atlantic PGA and will host events in Virginia and Maryland.  The series will feature three divisions: Prep, Futures, and Discovery.  On the day of each of the Middle Atlantic Series events, players are welcome to attend our “Introduction to Tournament Golf” workshops.  The workshops are designed to promote and increase participation among middle and high school age developmental female golfers.  Topics covered at the workshops will include learning to become comfortable playing competitive golf, learning basic rules of golf, and building confidence on the course.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers affordable, high-quality nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf. The PKBGT is the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 450 members in 2015 and 450 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.
