Recap: 2017 North State Girls’ High School Challenge at Keith Hills GC

On Wednesday, September 27, 2017 the Tarheel Youth Golf Association and the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour hosted the 2017 North State Girls’ High School Challenge at Keith Hills GC in Buies Creek, NC. There are 48 participants competing in the event; 12 teams: West Johnston High School, Cox Mills High School, Marvin Ridge High School, Cleveland High School, Clayton High School, New Bern High School, Pinecrest High School (Gold), Pinecrest High School (Green), Sun Valley High School, Laney High School, Ravenscroft School, and Cape Fear High School, as well as 4 individuals: Kate Hawkins of Halifax Academy, Angelique Seymour of Liberty Christian Academy, Myranda Vogan of New Bern High School, and Kayla Ward of Garner Magnet High School.
Pinecrest High School of Pinecrest, NC repeated as winners of the North State Girls’ High School Challenge at Keith Hills CC in Buies Keith Hills Golf ClubCreek, NC winning by just 4 shots over Laney High School, with a team score of 229.  Pinecrest HS was lead by senior, Mackenzie Battle of Aberdeen, NC who placed second with a round of even par, 72. Pinecrest’s team placed all four players in the top sixteen of the individual scores.  Jaclyn Kenzel of Southern Pines, NC contributed a round of 76; Lorin Wagler of Seven Lakes, NC finished with a round of 81; and Mara Hirtle of Pinehurst, NC shot a round of 84.
Laney High School of Wilmington, NC finished in second place with a team score of 233. Laney HS was lead by Jayla Rogers who won medalist of the match with a score of 2-under par, 70, and made a hole-in-one on hole #3! As medalist of the match Jayla has earned an invitation to the PKB Tournament of Champions at Pinehurst No. 8 in December. Grace Holcomb of Laney HS finished the day at 78, and Reagan Creasy of Laney HS finished with an 85.
Ravenscroft High School of Raleigh, NC finished in third place with a team score of 235.
The top-5 players of the day also earned an invitation to the PKB Invitational at Grandover Resort in November. Those players are Jayla Rogers, Mackenzie Battle, Holly McCann, Jaclyn Kenzel, and Kate Hawkins.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers affordable, high-quality nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf. The PKBGT is the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 450 members in 2015 and 450 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.
