Recap: A. Wang, Shin, Nguyen Victorious at Middle Atlantic One-Day @ Kenwood CC

On Saturday, September 16, 2017 the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the Middle Atlantic One-Day Series event at Kenwood G&CC in Bethesda, MD. One-day tournaments are University of Maryland GCdesigned for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf.  The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course.  The tournament featured a field of 55 players and included the Prep, Futures, and Discovery Series.

Playoff!! Winning the Prep Series was Alyssa Wang (Rockville, MD 2021) after going into a sudden death playoff against Carson Jenkins (Raleigh, NC 2019). Both Wang and Jenkins finished the day with a score of 5 over par, 76. Just one shot back, finishing in third place, was Hannah Hankim (Potomac, MD 2021) with a score of 77. Coming in fourth place was Kayleigh Zeman (Silver Spring, MD 2020) with a score of 79. Taking fifth place was Michelle Cabotaje (Fort Washington, MD) finishing the day with an 80.

Winning the Futures Series was Julie Shin (Brambleton, VA 2022) finishing the day at 4 over par, 75. Three players tied for second place, Rebecca Schiffman (Chevy Chase, MD 2020), Sue Lee (Lorton, VA 2022), and Jennifer Sorkin (Westminster, MD 2022) all just one stroke behind the leader, finishing the day with a score of 76. Finishing in fifth place was Vynie Chen (Centreville, VA 2020) with a score of 77.

Winning the Discovery Series was Josephine Nguyen (Springfield, VA 2024) with her impressive score of 2-under par, 33. The Runner-up of the Discovery Series was Amelia Cho (Ashburn, VA 2024) who finished just 4 shots back with a score of 37. Finishing in third place was Kanchana Duangsam (Haymarket, VA 2026) with a score of 40. There was a three way tie for fourth place between Katie Patterson (Washington, DC 2023), Emily Wang (McIean, VA 2024), and Sarah Wang (McIean, VA 2025) all shooting a final score of 41.

Congratulations to all the top finishers this weekend! The PKBGT is back in action on September 30, 2017 for the Middle Atlantic Series Finale @ Fawn Lake CC in Spotsylvania, VA. There is still time to register!

The PKBGT has partnered with the Middle Atlantic PGA and will host events in Virginia and Maryland.  The series will feature three divisions: Prep, Futures, and Discovery.  On the day of each of the Middle Atlantic Series events, players are welcome to attend our “Introduction to Tournament Golf” workshops.  The workshops are designed to promote and increase participation among middle and high school age developmental female golfers.  Topics covered at the workshops will include learning to become comfortable playing competitive golf, learning basic rules of golf, and building confidence on the course.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers affordable, high-quality nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf. The PKBGT is the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 450 members in 2015 and 450 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.
