On Saturday, September 16, 2017 the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the Middle Atlantic One-Day Series event at Kenwood G&CC in Bethesda, MD. One-day tournaments are University of Maryland GCdesigned for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf.  The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course.  The tournament featured a field of 55 players and included the Prep, Futures, and Discovery Series.

Playoff!! Winning the Prep Series was Alyssa Wang (Rockville, MD 2021) after going into a sudden death playoff against Carson Jenkins (Raleigh, NC 2019). Both Wang and Jenkins finished the day with a score of 5 over par, 76. Just one shot back, finishing in third place, was Hannah Hankim (Potomac, MD 2021) with a score of 77. Coming in fourth place was Kayleigh Zeman (Silver Spring, MD 2020) with a score of 79. Taking fifth place was Michelle Cabotaje (Fort Washington, MD) finishing the day with an 80.

Three players tied for second place, Rebecca Schiffman (Chevy Chase, MD 2020), Sue Lee (Lorton, VA 2022), and Jennifer Sorkin (Westminster, MD 2022) all just one stroke behind the leader, finishing the day with a score of 76. Finishing in fifth place was Vynie Chen (Centreville, VA 2020) with a score of 77.

Winning the Discovery Series was Josephine Nguyen (Springfield, VA 2024) with her impressive score of 2-under par, 33. There was a three way tie for fourth place between Katie Patterson (Washington, DC 2023), Emily Wang (McIean, VA 2024), and Sarah Wang (McIean, VA 2025) all shooting a final score of 41.

Congratulations to all the top finishers this weekend! The PKBGT is back in action on September 30, 2017 for the Middle Atlantic Series Finale @ Fawn Lake CC in Spotsylvania, VA. There is still time to register!

The PKBGT has partnered with the Middle Atlantic PGA and will host events in Virginia and Maryland.  The series will feature three divisions: Prep, Futures, and Discovery.  On the day of each of the Middle Atlantic Series events, players are welcome to attend our “Introduction to Tournament Golf” workshops.  The workshops are designed to promote and increase participation among middle and high school age developmental female golfers.  Topics covered at the workshops will include learning to become comfortable playing competitive golf, learning basic rules of golf, and building confidence on the course.
