Recap: Jonely, Waclawski, Nguyen Win MA One-Day Series @ Bowling Green CC (South)

On Saturday, September 9, 2017 the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the Middle Atlantic One-Day Series event at Bowling Green CC (South) in Front Royal, VA. One-day tournaments are University of Maryland GCdesigned for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf.  The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course.  The tournament featured a field of 29 players and included the Prep, Futures, and Discovery Series.

Winning the Prep Series was Hannah Jonely (Ashburn, VA 2020). Hannah finished the day with a score of 7 over par, 77. Just 1 shot back, finishing in second place, and winning the scorecard playoff was Cassie Robinson (Emporia, VA 2019) with a score of 78. Coming in third place was Jessica Rathbone (Montpelier, VA 2020) with a score of 78. Taking 4th place was Ester Choi (Midlothian, VA 2021) finishing the day at 83.

Winning the Futures Series was Katelynn Waclawski (Vienna, VA 2022) finishing the day at 8 over par, 78. Four players finished the day at 80, and a scorecard playoff determined the winners. Runner-up was Lauren Sims (Front Royal, VA 2019), just 2 strokes behind the leader, shooting 80. Finishing in third place was Vynie Chen (Centreville, VA 2020) with a score of 80.  Sydney Hackett (Ashburn, VA 2022) finished in fourth place also with a score of 80.

Winning the Discovery Series was Josephine Nguyen (Springfield, VA 2024) with her impressive score of 2-over par, 37. The Runner-up of the Discovery Series was Emily Wang (McLean, VA 2024) who finished just 4 shots back with a score of 41.

Congratulations to all the top finishers this weekend! The PKBGT is back in action September 16, 2017 for the Middle Atlantic One-Day Series @ Kenwood Golf & Country Club in Bethesda, MD. There is still time to register!

The PKBGT has partnered with the Middle Atlantic PGA and will host events in Virginia and Maryland.  The series will feature three divisions: Prep, Futures, and Discovery.  On the day of each of the Middle Atlantic Series events, players are welcome to attend our “Introduction to Tournament Golf” workshops.  The workshops are designed to promote and increase participation among middle and high school age developmental female golfers.  Topics covered at the workshops will include learning to become comfortable playing competitive golf, learning basic rules of golf, and building confidence on the course.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers affordable, high-quality nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf. The PKBGT is the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 450 members in 2015 and 450 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.
