Preview: MA One-Day Series @ Bowling Green CC (South)

On Saturday, September 9, 2017 the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour will play the Middle Atlantic One-Day Series event at Bowling Green CC (South). One-day tournaments are University of Maryland GCdesigned for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf.  The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course.  The tournament featured a field of 29 players and includes the Prep, Futures, and Discovery Series.

Featured in the Prep Series are Hannah Hankim (Potomac, MD 2021), Jessica Rathbone (Montpelier, VA 2020), and Hannah Jonely (Ashburn, VA 2020). Hankim is currently ranked 3rd in the Prep Order of Merit – MA, and has finished top-3 finishes in her last two Middle Atlantic One-Day Series events. Rathbone is currently ranked 2nd in the Prep Order of Merit – MA, and finished runner-up at her last MA One-Day event at The Hollows GC. Jonely is currently ranked T10 in the Prep Order of Merit – MA, and has finished top-5 in her last two MA One-Day Series events. They look to continue their success this weekend at Bowling Green CC (South) in Front Royal, VA.

The top-5 finishers in the Prep Middle Atlantic Order of Merit will receive an invitation to the 2017 PKBGT Invitational at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, NC. The tournament is a signature event of the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Tour each November.

Featured in the Futures Series are Melanie Walker (Burke, VA 2022), D’yan Robinson (Richmond, VA 2022), and Vynie Chen (Centreville, VA 2020). Walker is currently ranked T28 in the Futures Order of Merit – MA and finished T4 in her last MA One-Day Series at The Hollows GC. Robinson is currently ranked 5th in the Futures Order of Merit – MA and also finished T4 in her last MA One-Day Series at The Hollows GC. Chen is currently ranked 3rd in the Futures Order of Merit – MA and finished in 1st place in her last MA One-Day Series event at Hobbit’s Glen GC. They look to continue their success this weekend at Bowling Green CC (South) in Front Royal, VA.

Awards will be presented to the top-4 finishers in the Prep and Futures Series. The Champions of the Prep and Futures Series will also earn Class A status and an invitation to the 2017 PKBGT Tournament of Champions.

Featured in the Discovery Series are 7 players from Virginia, Maryland, and DC. Awards will be presented to the top-2 finishers in the Discovery Series.

The PKBGT has partnered with the Middle Atlantic PGA and will host events in Virginia and Maryland.  The series will feature three divisions: Prep, Futures, and Discovery.  On the day of each of the Middle Atlantic Series events, players are welcome to attend our “Introduction to Tournament Golf” workshops.  The workshops are designed to promote and increase participation among middle and high school age developmental female golfers.  Topics covered at the workshops will include learning to become comfortable playing competitive golf, learning basic rules of golf, and building confidence on the course.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers affordable, high-quality nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf. The PKBGT is the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 450 members in 2015 and 450 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.
