Recap: Walsh, Zou, Nguyen Win MA One-Day Series @ The Hollows GC (Cottage/Lake)

On Saturday, August 26, 2017 the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the Middle Atlantic One-Day Series event at The Hollows GC (Cottage/Lake). One-day tournaments are University of Maryland GCdesigned for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf.  The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course.  The tournament featured a field of 24 players and included the Prep, Futures, and Discovery Series.

Winning the Prep Series was Tatum Walsh (Midlothian, VA 2021). Tataum finished the day with a score of 4 over par, 75. Just three shots back, finishing in second place was Jessica Rathbone (Montpelier, VA 2020) with a score of 78. There was a tie for third place and a scorecard playoff determined the winner. Coming in third place was Hannah Hankim (Potomac, MD 2021) with a score of 79, and taking 4th place was Paris Fieldings (Suffolk, VA 2023) also finishing the day at 79.

Winning the Futures Series was Alice Zou (Potomac, MD 2022) finishing the day at 4 over par, 75. Runner-up was Sue Lee (Lorton, VA 2022), just 2 strokes behind the leader, shooting 77. Finishing in third place was Julie Shin (Brambleton, VA 2022) with a score of 82. There was a three-way tie for fourth place. Winning the scorecard playoff was D’yan Robinson (Richmond, VA 2022) with a birdie on hole 18, finishing in fourth place with a score of 83.

Winning the Discovery Series was Josephine Nguyen (Springfield, VA 2024) with her impressive score of one-under par, 35. The Runner-up of the Discovery Series was Emily Wang (Mclean, VA 2024) who finished just one shot back with a score of even par, 36.

Congratulations to all the top finishers this weekend! The PKBGT is back in action September 9, 2017 for the Middle Atlantic One-Day Series @ Bowling Green CC (South). There is still time to register!

The PKBGT has partnered with the Middle Atlantic PGA and will host events in Virginia and Maryland.  The series will feature three divisions: Prep, Futures, and Discovery.  On the day of each of the Middle Atlantic Series events, players are welcome to attend our “Introduction to Tournament Golf” workshops.  The workshops are designed to promote and increase participation among middle and high school age developmental female golfers.  Topics covered at the workshops will include learning to become comfortable playing competitive golf, learning basic rules of golf, and building confidence on the course.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers affordable, high-quality nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf.
