Recap: Hankim, Chen, and E. Wang Win MA One-Day Series at Hobbit’s Glen GC

On Saturday, August 5, 2017 the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the Middle Atlantic One-Day Series event at Hobbit’s Glen GC. One-day tournaments are University of Maryland GCdesigned for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf.  The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course.  The tournament featured a field of 35 players and included the Prep, Futures, and Discovery Series.

Winning the Prep Series was Hannah Hankim (Potomac, MD 2021). Hankim finished the day with a score of 5 over par, 77. Finishing in second place was Faith Mcilvain (Ellicott City, MD 2020) with a score of 83. Coming in third place was Hannah Jonely (Ashburn, VA 2020, with a score of 86.

Winning the Futures Series was Vynie Chen (Centreville, VA 2020) finishing the day at 2 over par, 74. Runner-up was Julie Shin (Brambleton, VA 2022), just one stroke behind the leader, shooting 75. Finishing in third place Sue Lee (Lorton, VA 2022) with a score of 77. Finishing in fourth place was AnPhi Le (Fredrick, MD 2022) with a score of 80.

Winning the Discovery Series was Emily Wang (Mclean, VA 2024) with her impressive score of one under par, 35. The Runner-up of the Discovery Series was Makayla Grubb (Stafford, VA 2025) who was 4 shots back with a score of 39.

Congratulations to all the top finishers this weekend! The PKBGT is back in action August 26, 2017 for the Middle Atlantic One-Day Series @ The Hollows GC. There is still time to register!

The PKBGT has partnered with the Middle Atlantic PGA and will host events in Virginia and Maryland.  The series will feature three divisions: Prep, Futures, and Discovery.  On the day of each of the Middle Atlantic Series events, players are welcome to attend our “Introduction to Tournament Golf” workshops.  The workshops are designed to promote and increase participation among middle and high school age developmental female golfers.  Topics covered at the workshops will include learning to become comfortable playing competitive golf, learning basic rules of golf, and building confidence on the course.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers affordable, high-quality nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf. The PKBGT is the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 450 members in 2015 and 450 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.
