Recap: Cherry, E. Chen Wins the Commonwealth Classic @ Hidden Creek CC

On Tuesday, July 18, the PKBGT played the final round of the 2017 Commonwealth Classic at Hidden Creek Country Club.  The event featured a field of 26 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour in the country.  There are five different states represented in the tournament.

Winning the Bell Series was Jacqueline Cherry (Ellicott City, MD) with a two day total of 4 over par, 75-73-148.  Coming in a tie for second place was Natalie Welsh (Valencia, PA 2018)  and Lena Capoccia (Bethesda, MD 2018) both finishing one shot back of the champion with a two day total of 149. In a tie for fourth place was Jordan Cornelius (Bethesda, MD 2018) and Danielle Suh (Herndon, VA 2020) both finishing with a two day total of 152.

Winning the Futures Series was Emma Chen (Derwood, MD 2022) after a blistering final round of 68 making her two day total 144, even par. Emma had 6 birdies on the day, making the turn at 3 under par.  Only two shots back to finish in second place was Hannah Jonely (Ashburn, VA 2020) after shooting another great score of 73 to have a two day total of 146. Coming in third place was Julie Shin (Brambleton, VA 2022) who shot 73 the final day to climb into the top 5 of this event with a two day total of 151.  Finishing in fourth place was Sue Lee (Lorton, VA 2022) with a final day score of 74 and a two day total of 152. Rounding out the top 5 was Katie Park (Fairfax, VA 2022) who shot a final round of 77 and finished with a two day total of 153.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
