Recap: Defending Champion Joy, Wins One-Day Open @ Pinewood CC

On Friday, June 9th, the 2017 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the North Carolina One-Day Series at Pinewood Country Club. Pinewood CC, host to many Carolinas junior and amateur events, is a classic course for this one-day tournament. One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The event features a field 33 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour.

Winning the Prep Series was Hailey Joy (Riedsville, NC 2018) with a 80.  In second place was Michaela Cox (Greensboro, NC 2017).  In third place was Elena Jacoby (Huntersville, NC 2019).  There was a three way tie for fourth place with Danielle Buompastore (Hoover, AL 2018), Bailee Twiford (Coinjock, NC 2019), Channing Hensley (Wake Forest, NC 2018).

Playoff! We had a two-way tie for first after the regulation 18 holes between Macy Pate (Boone, NC 2023) and Harper Shepherd (Greensboro, NC 2021). We had a one hole playoff on 10. Both girls hit great drives into the fairway. Pate hit the center of the green and Shepherd’s shot went just off the back of the green. Shepherd failed to get up and down allowing Pate to seal the win with a two putt. Finishing in third and only two shots out of the playoff was Lauren Denhard (Salisbury, NC 2019). Finishing in Fourth was Laney Wessels (Sophia, NC 2021).

Winning the Discovery Series was Ella Yu (High Point, NC 2023) with a score of 52. Finishing one shot behind her older sister was Ellen Yu (High Point, NC 2025) with a score of 53. Finishing in third was Alexandra Kennedy (Arden, NC 2026) and rounding out the top 4 was Lily Kate Watson (Wake Forest, NC 2023)

The PKBGT returns to action next weekend for the South Carolina One-Day Series @ Woodside Plantation and also the Middle Atlantic One-Day Series @ Shenandoah Valley Golf Course.
