Preview: PKBGT Tournament of Champions

The Pinehurst No. 8 start of December brings together 66 champions from the previous year on the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour.  Each participant has earned their position in the PKBGT Tournament of Champions field with their top finishes throughout the last 12 months.  This year’s Tournament of Champions is being contested at one of the top courses in the country, Pinehurst No. 8, in Pinehurst, North Carolina.  Players from 9 different states including North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and Arizona will tee it up to claim the PKBGT Champions

Some of the top players in the country highlight a strong Bell Series field, including the top 2 players on the PKBGT Performance Index, the Bell PKBGT Order of Merit winner, Emily Hawkins (Lexington, NC 2018) and Rachel Kuehn (Asheville, NC 2019).  Hawkins is the reigning champion at the Wolfpack Classic at NC State Lonnie Poole GC and Carolina’s Classic at Forest Oaks CC .  Kuehn is the 2015 PKBGT INVITATIONAL champion, and also the reigning champion at the Tiger Classic at the Walker Course at Clemson.

Other players to watch include 2016 Precision Jr. Girls’ champion Haeley Wotnosky (Wake Forest, NC 2018) who is ranked 70th nationally, 2016 Prep Series Order of Merit champion Amanda Sambach (Davidson, NC 2021),  and 2016 PKBGT Bell Open Champion and East Carolina University signee Kathryn Carson (Mooresville, NC 2017) who all sit inside the Top-10 in the PKBGT Performance Index.

In the Prep Series event, many of the top players from the 2016 Futures Series will begin their journey towards the 2017 Prep Series Order of Merit championship at the Prep Series Kick-off this coming weekend in Pinehurst.  Leading the way is 5-time PKBGT champion in 2016, Lotte Fox (Raleigh, NC 2020) who is currently ranked 78th on the PKBGT Performance Index.  Other players to watch include Hampton Roads Classic champion Paris Fieldings (Suffolk, VA 2023), 2016 Bash at the Beach champion Emelia Pack (Browns Summit, NC 2019) and the 2016 Commonwealth Classic Champion Tatum Walsh (Midlothian, VA 2021).

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
