Update: Tie for First After Round 1 of the PKBGT Open Championships Presented by Bargray Clothing

On Saturday, May 27-, the 2017 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the PKBGT BELL OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS at Country Club of Salisbury. Salisbury, home of the Catawba College women’s golf team, is a tricky course for this three-day tournament. The event features a field 86 players from Bell and Futures Series of the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour . The event, ranked by the GolfWeek/Titliest national rankings, is the third championship tournament of the 2017 season. 

After round 1 there is a three way tie for first. Emily Hawkins (Lexington, NC 2018), Isabella van der Beist (Kingsport, TN, 2021), and Diana Christina Domenech (Richmond, VA 2018). All three girls played solid rounds and carded two over par, 73. Sitting alone in fourth place and two shot back is Nicole Adam (Pinehurst, NC 2020) with a first round score of 75. There are 5 players tired for fifth place with a score of 76. Its a tight race in the Bell division!

Leading in the Futures Series is Loralie Cowart (Winston, GA 2021). Loralie carded a first round score of 71 with an almost clean card recording one birdie, one bogey, and 16 pars. Only two shots back and in second is Hannah Nall (Cleveland, TN 2022) after finishing the day with a score of two over, 73. In third place was Cindy Song (Waxhaw, NC 2023) with a score of six over, 77. only one shot behind her is Katie Park (Fairfax, VA 2022). Rounding out the top five is Morgan Ellison (Peachtree City, GA 2021) with a score of 79. It’s still anyone’s tournament to win!

The PKBGT BELL OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS at Country Club of Salisbury brings together players from event brings together players from North Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Pennsylvania, Maryland, South Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia. It should be a great tournament! Who will be golden?

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
