Update: Battle, Atwood Leading at Carolina’s Classic @ Carolina Trace CC (Lake)

On Saturday, May 6, the 2017  Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the Carolina’s Classic @ Carolina Trace Country Club. Carolina Trace CC, site of numerous past U.S. Women’s Open qualifiers. The event features a field of 41 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour. 

In the Prep Division, Mackenzie Battle (2018, Aberdeen, NC) holds a 6 shot lead after a blistering 3-under par 69.  The Citadel commit shot 9’s of 36 and 33, with a scorecard including 6 birdies and 3 bogeys.  The final group on Sunday includes UNC Greensboro commit Hailey Joy (2018, Reidsville, NC) and Rory Weinfurther (2020, Midlothian, VA) who shot 75 & 76 respectively.

In the Futures Division, 2-time 2017 Futures National event champion Maria Atwood (2022, Holly Springs, NC) holds a 3-shot lead after her opening round 78.  Maria, who sits 4th of the Futures National Order of Merit, will be joined in the final pairing by Toni Blackwell (2020, Fayetteville, NC) and Brooke Burnette (2018, Suffolk, VA) who shot rounds of 81 and 83 respectively.

The final round will begin at 9:30 AM on Sunday, with the Prep Division teeing off first.  Awards for the top 5 players will follow play outside the Pro Shop.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers affordable, high-quality nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf. The PKBGT is the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 500 members in 2016 and  over 450 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.
