Preview: Carolina’s Classic @ Carolina Trace CC

On Saturday-Saturday, May 5-6, the 2017 the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour plays the Carolina’s Classic at Carolina Trace Country Club (Lake Course). The Lake Course, host site of North Carolina’s 2014 US Women’s Open Qualifier, is a difficult course for this two-day tournament.  The PKBGT also hosted a North Carolina One-Day Series event on the Lake Course last year.  Carolina Trace CC (Lake)

Featured among the 25-player Prep Series field are Emelia Pack (Browns Summit, NC 2020), Paris Fieldings (Suffolk, VA 2023) and Grace Jones (Hayesville, NC 2020).  Pack is currently ranked first on the NC Prep Series Order of Merit Standings and had a season best fourth place finish at this year’s PKBGT Tar Heel Classic.  Fieldings is ranked in fourth on the NC Prep Series Order of Merit and has finished in third and second place at her last two events at the Greater Richmond Classic and PKBGT Masters.  Jones is ranked third on the NC Prep series Order of Merit and had a fourth place finish at the PKBGT Tournament of Champions in December.

The Futures Series has a field of 17 players and  featured are Maria Atwood (Holly Springs, NC 2022) Erin Sinlgeton (Apex, NC 2020) and Grace Holcomb (Wilmington, NC 2021).  Maria Atwood has had a great season so far highlighted by a runner up finished at the PKB Junior at Pine Needles and two consecutive victories at the PKB Foundation Classic at Mid Pines and the NC Classic at Sapona Ridge CC.  She is ranked in second on the Futures National Order of Merit.  Singleton is currently ranked in fourth on the Futures National Order of Merit and had a runner-up finish at the PKBGT Masters and an individual win at the Tar Heel Classic.  Grace Holcomb is ranked in seventh on the Futures National Order of Merit and had a season best finish at the Tar Heel Classic.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers affordable, high-quality nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf. The PKBGT is the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 500 members in 2016 and  over 450 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.
