Preview: Maryland Classic @ Laytonsville GC

On Saturday-Saturday, May 5-6, the 2017 the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour plays the Maryland Classic at Laytonsville Golf Course in Gaithersburg, MD.  It is the first time that the PKBGT has hosted an event at the course.  The field features 26 golfers from  four different states and Washington DC. Laytonsville Golf Club

Featured in the Bell Series are Sophie Simon (Potomac, MD 2021), Diana Cristina Domenech (Richmond, VA 2018) and Elizabeth Coffren (Owings, MD 2020).  Simon is ranked in 70th on the PKBGT Performance Index and placed fourth at the PKBGT Tournament of Champions in December.   Domenech is ranked 61st on the PKBGT Performance Index and 10th on the Bell National Order of Merit.  Her season is highlighted with a victory at the Greater Richmond Classic.  Coffren is currently ranked 81st on the Bell National Order of Merit and had a season best finish as runner-up at the Tournament of Champions.

Featured in the Futures Series are Katie Park (Fairfax, VA 2022) Holly Haber (Stevensville, MD 2019) and Vynie Chen (Centreville, VA 2020).  Katie Park is currently ranked sixth on the Futures National Order of Merit and has three top-3 finishes this year, the most recent being the PKBGT Masters.  Haber has yet to play this year on the PKBGT but placed fourth last year at the Middle Atlantic One-Day Series event at U. Maryland with a 79.  Chen is ranked 14th on the PKBGT Preview Order of Merit Series and placed 14th at the MAPGA Kingsmill Championship.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers affordable, high-quality nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf. The PKBGT is the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 500 members in 2016 and  over 450 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.
