Preview: North Carolina Classic at Sapona Ridge

On Saturday-Sunday, April 1-2,  the 2017 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour plays the North Carolina Classic at Sapona Ridge Country Club. Sapona Ridge, host to many Carolinas junior and amateur events, is a demanding course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field 59 players for this event. 

The Prep Series field features 38 golfers, highlighted by 4 of the top-50 players on the 2017 PKBGT Performance Index, including: Madison Isaacson (Greensboro, NC 2018) in 18th position, Kayla Smith (Burlington, NC 2019) in 36th position, Mackenzie Battle (Aberdeen, NC 2018) in 42nd  position, and Emelia Pack (Browns Summit, NC 2019) in 49th position. Pack has had a great start to her 2017 season on the PKBGT with a win at the PKBGT Tournament of Champions and a top-5 finish at the Tar Heel Classic this month. 

The Futures Series field features 21 golfers, highlighted by 4 of the top-15 players on the 2017 PKBGT Futures Series Order of Merit List, including the Futures National Order of Merit leader Layla Meric (Wesley Chapel, NC 2021), Trinity Muthomi (Kernersville, NC 2022) in 5th position, Maria Atwood (Holly Springs, NC 2022) in 9th position, and Grace Holcomb (Wilmington, NC 2021) in 14th position. Meric has had a terrific start to her 2017 PKBGT season with Top-10 finishes in the four events she has played. Her most recent finish was for 6th place at the Tar Heel Classic among a strong field of players. 

The North Carolina Classic at Sapona Ridge Country Club brings together players from event brings together players from Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. It should be a great tournament!

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers low cost, nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf.
