Update: Yang’s 72 claims lead at Rocket Tour Players

— Live Scoring —

Day one of the first PKBGT Championship of the year is in the books in Athens, Georgia.  Sunny but chilly temperatures around 40 degrees challenged the players on the Robert Trent Jones layout at the University of Georgia Golf Course, one of the Top 10 collegiate courses in the country by Links Magazine.

In the Bell Series,  junior Elisa Yang (Norcross, GA 2017) holds a two-shot lead after round one, buoyed by her 4 birdie effort even par 72.  Yang leads by 2 over Louise Yu (Duluth, GA 2017) and by 3 over 2015 Rocket Tour Players Futures Series champion, Kate Owens (Suwanee, GA 2018).  Defending champion Lauren Lightfritz (Suwanee, GA 2016) sits 8 shots back after an opening round 80.

In the Futures Series, two 8th graders sit atop the leaderboard, Phoebe Carles (Clinton, SC 2020) and Caroline Smith (Inverness, IL, 2020).  Carles & Smith both fired 7-over rounds of 79 to share the lead.  Three players sit 4 shots of the lead, Lotte Fox (Raleigh, NC 2020), Kimberly Shin (Johns Creek, GA 2022) and Emelia Pack (Browns Summit, NC 2019).  Futures Series Order of Merit leader Nicole Adam (Pinehurst, NC 2020) was unable to complete the round, withdrawing due to illness.
