Preview: Middle Atlantic One-Day Series at U. Maryland

On August 27, 2016 the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour will play the Middle Atlantic One-Day Series event at the University of Maryland’s golf course.  The course is home to the men’s and women’s Terps golf teams and will return as a tour stop of the PKBGT.  One-day tournaments are University of Maryland GCdesigned for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf.  The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course.  The tournament features a field of 26 players and will include the Prep, Futures Discovery Series.

Featured in the Prep Series is Jinny Park (Fairfax, VA 2019), Kayla Perkins (Bethesda, MD 2018) and Danielle Suh (Herndon, VA 2020).  Park is currently ranked 61st on the PKBGT Performance Index and had three top-1o finishes this year.  Perkins is ranked 50th on the Performance Index and had two top-5 finishes this year.  Suh is ranked 98th on the Performance Index and will compete in her third event this year.

Featured in the Futures Series Katie Park (Fairfax, VA 2022) Alice Zou (Potomac, MD 2022) and Alex Abrams (Elkridge, MD 2018).  Park is ranked 45th on the Futures Series Order of Merit and finished in the top-10 in every tournament she’s played in this year.  Zou is ranked 2nd on the Middle Atlantic Futures Order of Merit thanks to her second place finish last week at Windy Hill.  Abrams is currently ranked 63rd on the Futures Series Order of Merit and had one top-5 finish this year.

The Discovery Series features a field of four players from the Maryland/DC area.  They will play 9-holes for the title and awards will be presented to the top-2 players in the Series.

The PKBGT has partnered with the Middle Atlantic PGA and will host five one-day events in Virginia and Maryland.  The series will feature three divisions: Prep, Futures, and Discovery.  One the day of each of the Middle Atlantic Series events, players are welcome to attend our “Introduction to Tournament Golf” workshops.  The workshops are designed to promote and increase participation among middle and high school age developmental female golfers.  Topics covered at the workshops will include learning to become comfortable playing competitive golf, learning basic rules of golf, and building confidence on the course.
