Update: Seumanutafa, Sambach Lead Tournament of Champions After Round One

— Event Scoreboard —

Round One of the 2016 PKBGT Tournament of Champions is in the books!  Difficult course conditions and weather played a factor in today’s scores.  Early morning wind and cold temperatures combined with some testy pin positions added to the challenge of Pinehurst No. 8.   Good putting will prove to be the difference in this tournament.

In the Bell Series, Aneka Seumanutafa (Frederick, MD 2019) leads by one stroke with a 73 over Brynn Walker (St. Davids, PA 2016) with a 74.  Both players played Pinehurst No. 8consistently all day, making plenty of pars and countering bogies with birdies.  Not far behind the two leaders with a 75 is Sarina Sonoda (Florence, SC 2016).  Lurking in fourth and fifth place respectively are Kendall Dobbins (Summerfield, NC 2016) with a 77 and Julie Lucio (Brownsville, TX 2018) with a 78.  It is still anyone’s game in the Bell Series; not many strokes separate these top-five players.

Leading the Prep Series are two players who are no strangers to the top of the leaderboards.  Amanda Sambach (Davidson, NC 2021) leads the field with an 80 and Nicole Adam (Pinehurst, NC 2019) is close behind in second in with an 82.  Tied for third place in the Prep Series are two players, Anna Morgan (Spartanburg, SC 2019) and Anna Freeman (Aiken, SC 2017) each with an 88 for their first round.  We look forward to a dramatic finish in each division!

The  start of December brings together 39 champions from the previous year on the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour.  Each player has earned their position in the PKBGT Tournament of Champions field thanks to their top finishes over the past 12 months.  This year’s Tournament of Champions is being contested at one of the top courses in the country, Pinehurst No. 8, in Pinehurst, North Carolina.  Players from nine different states including North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Texas and the District of Columbia will tee it up to claim the PKBGT Tournament of Champions title!

Play will conclude on Sunday, December 6th with a 10 AM double tee start.  Awards will go to the top-six finishers in both the Bell and Prep Series.
