Preview: PKBGT Tournament of Champions

The Pinehurst No. 8 start of December brings together 39 champions from the previous year on the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour.  Each participant has earned their position in the PKBGT Tournament of Champions field with their top finishes throughout the last 12 months.  This year’s Tournament of Champions is being contested at one of the top courses in the country, Pinehurst No. 8, in Pinehurst, North Carolina.  Players from 9 different states including North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Texas and the District of Columbia will tee it up to claim the PKBGT Champions

Some of the top players in the country highlight a strong Bell Series field, including the top 2 players on the PKBGT Performance Index, Mercer University signee Lauren Lightfritz (2016, Suwanee, GA) and Aneka Seumanutafa (2019, Frederick, MD).  Lightfritz is the reigning Rocket Tour Players Championship at UGA Athens GC champion in addition to victories at the Palmetto Classic at USC and  the Paladin Classic at Furman.  Seumanutafa is the reigning PKBGT Masters at Cutter Creek GC champion, and is currently ranked inside the Top 100 nationally on the Junior Golf Scoreboard.

Other players to watch include PKB Foundation Classic champion and UNC Chapel Hill signee Brynn Walker (2016, St. Davids, PA) who is ranked 70th nationally, 2014 Prep Series Order of Merit champion and East Carolina University signee Siranon Shoomee (2016, Sanford, NC), 2015 Precision Jr. Girls’ champion Sarina Sonoda (2016, Florence, SC) and reigning PKBGT Tour Championship winner Emily Hawkins (2018, Lexington, NC) who all sit inside the Top-10 in the PKBGT Performance Index.

In the Prep Series event, many of the top players from the 2015 Futures Series will begin their journey towards the 2016 Prep Series Order of Merit championship at the Prep Series Kick-off this coming weekend in Pinehurst.  Leading the way is 6-time PKBGT champion in 2015 Amanda Sambach (2021, Davidson, NC) who is currently ranked 17th on the PKBGT Performance Index.  Other players to watch include PKBGT Next 2020 champion Nicole Adam (2020, Pinehurst, NC), 2015 Metrolina Classic champion Muskan Uppal (2019, Cornelius, NC) and the South Carolina pair of 2015 Tar Heel Classic winner Anna Morgan (2019, Spartansburg, SC) and Anna Freeman (2017, Aiken, SC).

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
