Preview: Metrolina Classic at Winthrop Univeristy

On Saturday-Sunday, April 30th-May 1st, the PKBGT will play the Metrolina Classic at Rock Hill Country Club in Rock Hill, SC.  The course is home to the Winthrop University women’s golf team.  The filed features 56 players from six different states in the Bell and Futures Series.

Competing in the Bell Series next week are Caroline Cahill (Wilmington, NC 2017), Baylee Evans (Lancaster, SC 2018) and the defending champion Jodee Tindal (Rock Hill, SC 2017).  Tindal, who has committed to playing golf at Mercer University when she graduates in 2017, won the event last year with a five-over 149 total.  Caroline Cahill has had success on the links this year, winning the Palmetto Classic in March and the One-Day Series event at Carolina Trace.  Baylee Evans is currently ranked 15th on the Bell Series Order of Merit and placed second at the Palmetto Classic this year.

Competing in the Futures Series are Shalie Williams (Shawboro, NC 2018), Michaela Cox (Greensboro, NC 2017), and Kasey Owenby (Gastonia, NC 2019).  Williams is currently ranked 9th on the Futures Series Order of Merit and placed fifth at the Tar Hill Classic at UNC’s Finley Golf Course.  Cox is ranked in the 12th position on the PKBGT Futures Order of Merit and finished in fifth place at the PKB Foundation Classic at Mid Pines this year.  Owenby is ranked 15th on the Futures Series Order of Merit.

Awards will be presented to the top-five finishers in each series.  We look forward to another great event and welcome all of our new players to the PKBGT!

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers affordable, high-quality nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf.
