Update: Whitehouse & Walsh Lead Commonwealth Classic

On Saturday, April 23rd, the 2016 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the Commonwealth Classic at Fawn Lake Country Club. Fawn Lake, nicknamed Arnold Palmer’s “Virginia Masterpiece”, is a demanding course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field 31 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour.

In the Prep Series after round 1, Erica Whitehouse (Mechanicsville, VA 2017) is leading the field by one stroke at five over par with a score of 78. Not far behind Whitehouse is Taylor Miano (Dobbs Ferry, NY 2020) at 6 over par with a score of 79, and Natalie Welsh (Valencia, PA 2018) and Rebecca Dinunzio (Norfolk, VA 2019) at eight over par both with scores of 81.

In the Futures Series after round 1, Tatum Walsh (Midlothian, VA 2021) is leading the field by two strokes at five over par with a score of 78. Not far behind in second is Sophie Simon (Potomac, MD 2021) at seven over par with a score of 80 and Kathrine Schuster (Kill Devil Hills, NC 2021) is in third at ten over par with a score of 83.

Sunny skies and temperatures in the mid 70s are in the forecast for Sunday. Looks like a beautiful day for the final round!

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers affordable, high-quality nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf.
