Recap: Massengill, Dunlap win One-Day at Pine Island

On Saturday, April 4, the 2015 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the One-Day Open Series at Pine Island Country Club. Pine Island, home to the Carolinas Golf Association’s Vicki DiSantis Girls’ Championship in May, was a beautiful course for the first One-Day Open Series tournament of the season. Despite gusty winds, it was still a wonderful day on the links. One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The event featured a field 45 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 425 members in 2014 and over 350 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

In the Prep Series, Grace Massengill (Hickory, NC 2016) shot four over par with a score of 76 to place first. Taylor Hinson (Belmont, NC 2017) shot seven over par with a score of 79 to place second and Callista Rice (Mars Hill, NC 2017) shot eight over par with a score of 80 to place third.

In the Futures Series, Emily Dunlap (Greenville, SC 2019) shot seven over par with a score of 79 to place first. Amanda Sambach (Davidson, NC 2021) and Muskan Uppal (Cornelius, NC 2019) tied for second, both shot nine over par, each with scores of 81. Hannah Rose Bruxvoort (Chapel Hill, NC 2018) and Sophie Holland (Cornelius, NC 2020) tied for fourth, both shot 10 over par, each with scores of 82.

PKBGT returns to action next week on Saturday-Sunday, April 11-12 with the PKBGT MASTERS at Cutter Creek Golf Club in Snow Hill, NC. The event brings together players from California, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. The event is ranked by the GolfWeek/Titliest national rankings and is the second championship tournament of the 2015 season. Who will be golden?

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
