Recap: Lightfritz, Melting win Palmetto Classic at USC

On Sunday, March 22, the 2015 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour plays the Palmetto Classic at Cobblestone Park Golf Club. Cobblestone, home of the University of South Carolina women’s golf team, is a beautiful course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field 56 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 425 members in 2014 and over 350 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

In the Prep Series, Lauren Lightfritz (Suwanee, GA 2016) shot one over par with a score of 71 to place first with a two-day total of 143. Payton Schanen (Milton, GA 2015) shot one under par with a score of 70 to place second with a two-day total of 149. Baylee Evans (Lancaster, SC 2018) and Alissa Yang (Norcross, GA 2017) tied for third, both with a two-day totals of 151.

In the Futures Series, Parker Melting (Mint Hill, NC 2018) shot four over par with a score of 75 to place first with a two-day total of 155. Muskan Uppal (Cornelius, NC 2019) shot nine over par with a score of 80 to place second with a two-day total of 160. Anna Freeman (Aiken, SC 2017) and Anna Morgan (Spartanburg, SC 2019) tied for third, both with a two-day totals of 162.

PKBGT returns to action next week on Saturday-Sunday, March 28-29 with the Boar’s Head Inn Classic @ Birdwood Golf Club, the home course to the University of Virginia women’s golf team. The event brings together players from Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers low cost, nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf.
