On Saturday, February 14, the 2015 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the Rocket Tour PLAYERS at the University of Georgia Golf Course. The golf course is home to the University of Georgia Bulldogs women’s golf team. The course also hosts the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic which is the oldest women’s collegiate tournament in the southern United States and boasts one of the toughest fields that the women will see all year. In 2013, the course was the host of the Women’s NCAA Division I National Championship. In addition to being an distinguish course in collegiate golf, the course also hosted the PGA Tour Web.com Stadion Classic Golf Tournament from 2010 to 2013. With its rich tournament history, the University of Georgia GC is an esteemed course for the first championship event of the 2015 season. The event features a field 32 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 425 members in 2014 and over 350 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.
In the Bell Series after round one, Alyssa Montgomery (Knoxville, TN 2019) and Mariah Smith (Clarksville, TN 2017) are tied for first leading the field by one stroke at four over par, each with scores of 76. Not far behind the leaders is Lauren Lightfritz (Suwanee, GA 2016) at five over par with a score of 77 and Ashley Czarnecki (Greenville, SC 2016) at seven over par with a score of 79.
In the Futures Series after round one, PKBGT newcomer Malloy Lovell (Georgetown, KY 2018) is leading with a 8-over par 80, one shot ahead of Sophie Holland (Cornelius, NC 2020) who sits at 9-over par 81. Kate Owens (Suwanee, GA 2018) sits 2 shots back with a 10-over par 82.
Sunny skies and cold temperatures are in the forecast for Sunday. Despite the chilly temperatures, it should be a great final round of the tournament. Who will be the first PKBGT Golden player of 2015?

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
