Update: Capoccia, Sambach Continue to Lead PKBGT NEXT After Round Two

— Live Scoring —

Duke University GCThe greens at Duke University Golf Club continued to prove challenging to our players as they tackled the second round of the PKBGT NEXT.  Scores where higher overall than round one due to some tricky pin placements today.  The girls had the weather on their side though and enjoyed some cooler temperatures which made the round enjoyable nonetheless.  Some overnight showers are expected to slow the greens down for round three tomorrow.

In RecruitPKB Level 1, which includes all of the players from the 2016, 2017, and 2018 grad years, Lena Capoccia (Bethesda, MD 2018) remains in first place with a commanding ten stroke lead thanks to a solid round of 76 today.  She is just 4-over par for the tournament (148).  Pars were the key to Capoccia’s good round as she only made one birdie early on the front nine.  Behind Capoccia is Diana Cristina Domenech (Richmond, VA 2018), at 14-over par (158) for the tournament.  Domenech struggled on the front nine but was able to turn it around on the back nine when she shot 38.  Hannah Rose Bruxvoort (Chapel Hill, NC 2018) is close behind Domench in the third place at 18-over par (162).  Bruxvoort was one of the few players who posted a better score in the second round (83-79) thanks to four birdies, including one on the difficult ninth hole.

In RecruitPKB Level 2, Amanda Sambach (Davidson, NC 2021) could not be caught after she carded the lowest score of round two (74).  She is at 3-over for the tournament at 147 and also rests in first place with a ten stroke lead.  Currently in second place is Bailey Davis (White Plains, MD 2021) with a 157 total.  She also improved from round one (80-77) and even scored the tournament’s only eagle when she made a three on the par-5 first hole today.  There is a three-way tie for third place in RecruitPKB Level 2 just two strokes out of second place (159).  The players in third are Kendall Turner, (Chesapeake, VA 2019) Michelle Harn, (Charlotte, NC 2019) and Lauren Freyvogel (Gibsonia, PA 2019).  Freyvogel had the best back nine today when she fired a 1-under 35.  She made four birdies on that nine alone and three of those birdies were consecutive.  These three players are also all in a three-way tie for first in the 2019 grad year division which will make for an exciting finish tomorrow!

Play in the 54-hole PKBGT NEXT event will conclude tomorrow after round three.  The top-two finishers in RecruitPKB Levels 1 & 2 will be invited to the 2015 PKB Invitational to be played at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, NC on November 7th-9th.  The top player in each graduation year will earn a spot in the 2015 PKB Tournament of Champions to be played at Pinehurst No. 8 on December 5th-6th.  There is a lot at stake at this event and we look forward to a dramatic conclusion.
