Duke University GCThe PKBGT NEXT event wrapped up its final round today at Duke University Golf Club.  The greens continued to prove the most difficult for players even in the third round.  The champion and runner-up in each graduation year (2016-2021) were recognized as well as an overall champion and runner-up in RecruitPKB Level 1 & Level 2.

In the 2016 grad year division, both Morgan Mugnolo (Haymarket, VA 2016) and Janie Thomas (Winston-Salem, NC 2016) tied for first with a 252 total for the 54-hole event.  It would take 56 holes of golf to determine a winner, and it was Thomas who managed to seal the victory over Mugnolo.  In the 2017 division there was also a tie for first at 258 between Stella Woo, (Timonium, MD 2017) who finished first and Jessica Thornton, (Virginia Beach, VA 2017) who placed second.  Thornton shot her best round of the tournament in round three (78) and even made three consecutive birdies on the back nine to do so.  Woo also played solidly all week.  The 2018 grad year also saw the champion and runner of RecruitPKB Level 1 when Lena Capoccia (Bethesda, MD 2018) and Diana Cristina Domenech (Richmond, VA 2018) took first and second place respectively.  Capoccia finished at 16-over for the tournament (232) and won by seven strokes over Domenech.

In the 2019 grad year division, where there was a three-way tie for first going into the final round, Michelle Harn (Charlotte, NC 2019) proved victorious thanks to a final round 79 today.  She finished at 238 for the tournament just two shots better than runner-up Lauren Freyvogel (Gibsonia, PA 2019).  Freyvogal finished at 240 for the tournament and shot 81 in her final round today.  In the 2020 division, Nicole Adam (Pinehurst, NC 2020) placed first over runner-up Melissa Meng (Blacksburg, VA 2020) by five strokes.  Both players finished strongly in round three and each shot their low rounds for the tournament (77 and 76 respectively).  Amanda Sambach (Davidson, NC 2021) could not be caught and maintained her lead for all three rounds in the 2021 division.   She shot just 3-over par for the tournament at 219.  Bailey Davis (White Plains, MD 2021) placed second with a 233 total.  Both Sambach and Davis placed first and second overall in RecruitPKB Level 2 as well.

The PKB Staff would like to extend our congratulations to all of our champions and runner ups!  You have certainly proved you are “PKB NEXT!”
