Recap: Smyth, Conner win Chanticleer Classic

On Sunday, July 19, the 2015 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour concluded the Chanticleer Classic at the Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina University. The Hackler Course, home of the Coastal Carolina University Chanticleers women’s golf teams, is the only university golf course on the Grand Strand and was a great course for this two-day tournament. The event featured a field 33 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 425 members in 2014 and over 350 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

In the Prep Series, Riley Smyth (Cary, NC 2018) shot three over par with a score of 75 to place first with a two-day total of 146.  Sarah Funderburg (Wilmington, NC 2018) shot five over par to place second with a two-day total of 150 and Maris Daquil Kawabe (Fayetteville, NC 2016) shot six over par with a score of 78 to place third with a two-day total of 157.

In the Futures Series, Amanda Conner (Irwin, PA 2017) and  Jayla Rogers (Wilmington, NC 2019) both had two-day totals of 158 forcing a sudden-death playoff. Conner made a routine par on the first playoff hole to win. Hannah Amburn (Virginia Beach, VA 2016) shot seven over par with a score of 79 to place third with a two-day total of 163.

PKBGT returns to action on Friday, July 24 with the One-Day Open Series @ Bermuda Run Country Club (West Course) in Advance, NC. The event brings together players North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers low cost, nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf.
