On Sunday, December 28, the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the Peggy Kirk Bell Junior at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club. Pine Needles, host the US Women’s Open in 1996, 2001, and 2007, is among the most well know golf courses in the southern US and a ideal setting for this new event on the PKBGT schedule. The event features a field 64 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 425 members in 2014 and over 340 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.
In the Bell Series event, defending champion and Virginia Tech signee Elizabeth Bose (Norfolk, VA 2015) is tied for the first round lead at 1-over par 72 with Sarah Spicer (Bahama, NC 2016). Bose’s round was highlighted by a hole-in-one on the 116 yard 5th hole! Jessica Spicer (Bahama, NC 2016) sits 1-shot back at 2-over par 73 in solo 3rd and UNC Chapel Hill signee Killian Casson (Greenville, NC 2015) sits 2 back in 4th place at 3-over par 75. James Madison signee Carley Cox (China Grove, NC 2015) sits in 5th, 3 shots back at 75.
In the Futures Series event, Jalen Castle (West Columbia, SC 2020) shot the low round of the day with an even par 71 to take a 2 shot lead. Paige Church (Newland, NC 2016) and Rachel Kuehn (Asheville, NC 2019) sit 2 shots back with rounds of 2-over par 73. PKBGT newcomer Jacquelyn Cai (West Windsor, NJ 2018) sits in 4th place at 5-over par 76 with Muskan Uppal (Cornelius, NC 2019) in 5th at 7-over par 78.
Rain showers and temperatures in the high 50s are in the forecast for Monday. Although the less than ideal conditions in the forecast, it should still be great final round of the tournament!
