Recap: Thomas, Huffman win One-Day at Forest Oaks

On Saturday, July 11, the 2015 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the One-Day Open Series at Forest Oaks Country Club. Forest Oaks, former home of the PGA Tour Greater Greensboro Open, was a great course for this one-day tournament. One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The event features a field 50 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 425 members in 2014 and over 350 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

In the Prep Series, Janie Thomas (Winston-Salem, NC 2016) shot seven over par with a score of 79 to place first. Michelle Harn (Charlotte, NC 2019) and Olivia John (Greensboro, NC 2018) both shot nine over par each with scores of 81 to tie for second.

In the Futures Series, Grace Huffman (Lexington, VA 2018) shot four over par with a score of 76 to place first. Emma Reid (Fletcher, NC 2018) shot five over par with a score off 77 to place second and Emilee Wenmoth (Clemmons, NC 2017) shot six over par with a score of 78 to place third.

PKBGT returns to action next weekend on Saturday-Sunday, July 18-19 with the Chanticleer Classic @ The Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina University. The tournament brings together players from Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. It should be a great tournament.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers low cost, nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf. Learn more about the tour at pkbgt.org or by contacting Tour Director Mike Parker at mparker@pkbgt.org or 336-347-8537.
