Recap: Hawkins, Nee win at Pinewood

On Friday, July 3, the 2015 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the One-Day Open Series at Pinewood Country Club. Pinewood, host to many Carolinas junior and amateur events, was a great course for this one-day tournament. One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The event featured a field 35 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 425 members in 2014 and over 350 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

In the Prep Series, Emily Hawkins (Lexington, NC 2018) shot three over par with a score of 75 to place first. Moon Cheong (Charlotte, NC 2017) shot five over par with a score of 77 to place second. Madison Isaacson (Greensboro, NC 2018) and Ashlee Richardson (Simpsonville, SC 2017) tied for third at eight over par each with scores of 80.

In the Futures Series, Lauren Nee (Cary, NC 2019) shot 11 over par with a score of 83 to place first. Georgia Loadholt (West Columbia, SC 2017) and Kelley Topiwala (Matthews, NC 2020) tied for second at 12 over par each with scores of 84.

PKBGT returns to action next week with the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Team Championship at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club (Green Course) in Williamsburg, VA. The events bring together players from Georgia, Indiana, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Virginia.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers low cost, nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf.
