Recap: Sonoda, Holland win PGS JR GIRLS

On Thursday, June 25, the 2015 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour concluded the PKBGT PGS JR GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIPS at Deep Springs Country Club. Deep Springs, a fantastic Ellis Maples designed course, was a great course for the fourth championship tournament of the 2015 season. The event featured a field of 38 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 425 members in 2014 and over 350 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf. The event, ranked by the GolfWeek/Titliest national rankings, was the fourth championship tournament of the 2015 season.

In the Prep Series, Sarina Sonoda (Florence, SC 2015) shot five over par with a score of 77 to place first with a two-day total of 147. Kathryn Carson (Mooresville, NC 2017) shot five over par with a score of 77 to place second with a two-day total of 149 and Emily Hawkins (Lexington, NC 2018) shot three over par with a score of 75 to place third with a two-day total of 152.

In the Futures Series, Sophie Holland (Cornelius, NC 2020) and Alexis Sudjianto (Charlotte, NC 2019) both had two-day totals of 150 forcing a sudden-death playoff. On the first hole of the playoff, Sudjianto made a brilliant up-and-down from 75 yards to continue the playoff. Holland proved triumphant with an easy birdie on the second playoff hole to win.

PKBGT returns to action Monday, June 29 with the One-Day Open Series @ Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation in Charlotte, NC. The event brings together players from across North Carolina.
