On Friday, June 19, the 2015 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the One-Day Open Series at Longleaf Golf & Country Club. Longleaf, home to host to many Carolinas junior and amateur events, was a wonderful course for this one-day tournament. One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The event featured a field 52 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 425 members in 2014 and over 350 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.
In the Prep Series, Elizabeth Nguyen (Pinehurst, NC 2017) shot one over par with a score of 72 to place first. Killian Casson (Greenville, NC 2015) shot two over par with a score of 73 to place second. Kendall Dobbins (Summerfield, NC 2016) and Megan Munroe (Raeford, NC 2016) both shot three over par each with scores of 74 to tie for third.
In the Futures Series, Amanda Sambach (Davidson, NC 2021) shot one over par with a score of 72 to place first. Emelia Pack (Browns Summit, NC 2019) shot nine over par with a score of 80 to place second. Madison Cross (Hickory, NC 2016) and Lauren Nee (Cary, NC 2019) both shot 10 over par each with scores of 81 to tie for third.
PKBGT returns to action next week with the PKBGT PGS JR GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIP at Deep Springs Country Club in Stoneville, NC. The events bring together players from North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia. The event is ranked by the GolfWeek/Titliest national rankings and is the fourth championship tournaments of the 2015 season. Who will be golden?
