On Saturday, June 13, the 2015 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the Commonwealth Classic at Fawn Lake Country Club. Fawn Lake, nicknamed Arnold Palmer’s “Virginia Masterpiece”, is a demanding course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field 27 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 425 members in 2014 and over 350 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.
In the Prep Series after round 1, Sirena Walsh (Chantilly, VA 2016) is leading the field by two strokes at five over par with a score of 78. Not far behind Walsh is Julia Calomiris (Washington, DC 2018) at seven over par with a score of 80, and Lena Capoccia (Bethesda, MD 2018) and Diana Cristina Domenech (Richmond, VA 2018) at nine over par both with scores of 81.
In the Futures Series after round 1, Jaden Harman (Harrisonburg, VA 2019) is leading the field by three stroke at three over par with a score of 76. Not far behind Harman, Kathryn Cardenas (Stafford, VA) and Jinny Park (Fairfax, VA 2019) are tied for second at six over par each with scores of 79.
Sunny skies and temperatures in the 90s are in the forecast for Sunday. Looks like a beautiful day for the final round!
The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
