Recap: Walsh, Harman win Commonwealth Classic

On Sunday, June 14, the 2015 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour concluded the Commonwealth Classic at Fawn Lake Country Club. Fawn Lake, nicknamed Arnold Palmer’s “Virginia Masterpiece”, was a demanding course for this two-day tournament. The event featured a field 27 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 425 members in 2014 and over 350 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

In the Prep Series, Sirena Walsh (Chantilly, VA 2016) shot four over par with a score of 77 to place first with a two-day total of 155. Julia Calomiris (Washington, DC 2018) shot four over par with a score of 77 to place second with a two-day total of 157 and Jacqueline Cherry (Ellicott City, MD 2018) shot five over par with a score of 78 to place third with a two-day total of 162.

In the Future Series, Jaden Harman (Harrisonburg, VA 2019) shot two over par with a score of 75 to place first with a two-day total of 151. Jinny Park (Fairfax, VA 2019) shot one over par with a score of 74 to place second with a two-day total of 153 and Rory Weinfurther (Midlothian, VA 2020) shot eight over par with a score of 81 to place third with a two-day total of 161.

PKBGT returns to action on Friday, June 19 with the One-Day Open Series @ Longleaf Golf & Country Club in Southern Pines, NC. The event brings together players North Carolina and Virginia.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers low cost, nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf.
