Recap: Massengill, Holland win One-Day at Rock Barn

On Wednesday, June 10, the 2015 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the One-Day Open Series at Rock Barn Golf & Spa (Jackson Course). Rock Barn is home to the PGA Champions Tour Greater Hickory Kia Classic and the Jackson Course was an iconic course for this midweek one-day tournament. One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The event featured a field 36 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 425 members in 2014 and over 350 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

In the Prep Series, Grace Massengill (Hickory, NC 2016) and Emily Hawkins (Lexington, NC 2018) both shot two over par each with scores of 74. There was a one-hole sudden-death playoff where Massengill made a smooth par to win.

In the Futures Series, Sophie Holland (Cornelius, NC 2020) shot seven over par with a score of 77 to place first. Ryann Sinclair (Mooresville, NC 2019) shot 11 over par with a score of 81 to place second and Amanda Hill (Hillsborough, NC 2016) shot 14 over par with a score of 84 to place third.

PKBGT returns to action this weekend with the Commmonwealth Classic at Fawn Lake Country Club in Spotsylvania, VA. The events bring together players from the District of Columbia, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, and Virginia. It should be a great Mid-Atlantic Series event.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers low cost, nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf.
