On Saturday, May 23, the 2015 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the PKBGT FUTURES OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS at Sapona Ridge Country Club. Sapona Ridge, host to many Carolinas junior and amateur events, is a demanding course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field 56 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 425 members in 2014 and over 350 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf. The event is the third championship tournament of the 2015 season.
After round one, Amanda Sambach (Davidson, NC 2021) is leading the field by three strokes at one over par with a score of 72. Not far behind Sambach is Carley Rudolf (Virginia Beach, VA 2019) at four over par with a score of 75. Parker Melting (Mint Hill, NC 2018) and Sophie Holland (Cornelius, NC 2020) are tied for third at six over par, each with a scores of 77.
Sunny skies with temperatures in the mid 80s are in the forecast for Sunday. Looks like a beautiful day for the final round!
The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers low cost, nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf.
