Recap: Sumner, Sambach win One-Day at Pinehurst

On Sunday, May 17, the 2015 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the One-Day Open Series at Pinehurst Resort No. 9. The course, host of the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship Sectional Qualifier in June, was a beautiful course for the second One-Day Open Series tournament of the season. One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The event featured a field 65 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 425 members in 2014 and over 350 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

In the Prep Series, Kathleen Sumner (Charleston, SC 2017) shot two over par with a score of 74 to place first. Ashley Czarnecki (Greenville, SC 2016) and Kayla Ward (Raleigh, NC 2018) each shot three over par with scores of 75 to tie for second.

In the Futures Series, Amanda Sambach (Davidson, NC 2021) shot four over par with a score of 76 to place first. Bailey Davis (White Plains, MD 2021) shot nine over par with a score of 81 to place second. Kaley Barts (Apex, NC 2016), Bryson Bowman (Summerfield, NC 2017), and Lexi Lucarelli (Moncks Corner, SC 2019) all shot 11 over par with scores of 83 to tie for third.

PKBGT would also like to congratulate Kelley Topiwala (Matthews, NC 2020) on her hole-in-one on hole #12, a 105 yard par 3. This is Topiwala’s second hole-in-one in her career.

PKBGT returns to action next weekend with the PKBGT Futures Open Championship at Sapona Ridge Country Club in Lexington, NC and the PKBGT Bell Open Championship at Country Club of Salisbury in Salisbury, NC. The events bring together players from Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. The Bell Open Championship is ranked by the GolfWeek/Titliest national rankings and both are the the third championship tournaments of the 2015 season. Who will be golden?
